12/8/09 - St. Joseph 74, Buchanan 62 - at Buchanan
Size usually plays a huge role in determining the outcome of a
basketball game, as it did for the Bears in the season opener at Buchanan.
The two tallest Bears led the way as Sean Guinane and David Brennan each had
23 points to give the Bears the 74-62 road win. The win was also the first
victory for Greg Blomgren as the Bears head coach.
12/11/09 - Niles 64, St. Joseph 44 - at St. Joseph
The Bears were unable to overcome a slow start as the Vikings outscored
the Bears 24-8 in the first quarter and held on for a 64-44 win over the
Bears. Jeremy Rush had 13 points to lead the Bears, while David Brennan had
11 for the now 1-1 Bears.
12/18/09 - Kalamazoo Central 70, St. Joseph 34 - at
Kalamazoo Central
Turnovers and poor shooting hurt the Bears as Kalamazoo Central's Devin
Oliver had 26 points in the Maroon Giants 70-34 win over the Bears. No
St. Joe player scored in double figures. Nick Piggee had 8 points and
Jeremy Rush scored 7 for the Bears who fall to 1-2 on the year.
12/22/09 - South Bend Clay 54, St. Joseph 53 - at South
Bend Clay
Clay's Kameron Stevens hit two free throws with 6.7 seconds left giving the
Colonials the lead for good as the Bears fell 54-53. David Brennan had
16 points to lead St. Joseph, while Sean Guinane scored 10 points before
fouling out in the final quarter. Donovan Campbell had 20 points for
Clay.
1/5/10 - Sturgis 42, St. Joseph 40 - at Sturgis
Sturgis outscored the Bears 13-4 in the final quarter, scoring the last two
points with 1.5 seconds left giving the Trojans a 42-40 win over the Bears.
Matt Riemland and DeVonte Jones scored nine points each to lead the Bears,
who have lost four straight.
1/8/10 - St. Joseph 52, Benton Harbor 49 - at St.
Joseph
The Bears strong defense and timely scoring in the fourth quarter helped
erase a 7 point deficit and gave the Bears the 52-49 upset victory over 10th
ranked Benton Harbor. David Brennan led the charge with a game
high 20 points. While Jeremy Rush and Sean Guinane each had 11.
1/12/10 - South Bend St. Joseph's 77, St. Joseph 45 -
at St. Joseph
After pulling off the upset win over Benton Harbor a week ago, the Bears
couldn’t maintain any of the momentum and fell 77-45 to South Bend St.
Joseph’s here at the Bear Den on Tuesday. The Bears recorded 28 fouls which
the Indians converted on 30 of 37 free throws. David Brennan had 16 points
to lead St. Joe while Nick Piggee had 10 points for the Bears who fall to
2-5 on the season.
1/15/10 - Lakeshore 45, St. Joseph 40 - at St. Joseph
Ealry problems for the Bears at the free throw line came back to haunt St.
Joe as the Bears fell in a close game to arch rival Lakeshore 45-40 at the
Bear Den. David Brennan was the only Bear in double figures as the
senior had a game hig 15 points.
1/19/10 - St. Joseph 53, Battle Creek Harper Creek 25
- at Harper Creek
St. Joe used a tight defense and limited Harper Creek to just 11 points in
the first half as the Bears defeated the host Beavers 53-25. Nick
Piggee scored 10 points for St. Joe. Since the start of the 2006-07
season, St. Joe has held an opponent to 25 points or less three times.
(12/12/08 SJ 54, Sturgis 24 & 1/2/07 SJ 35, Mattawan 22).
1/22/10 - St. Joseph 55, Mattawan 47 - at Mattawan
The Bears limited Mattawan to just 6 points over the final quarter as the
Bears defeated Mattawan 55-47. David Brennan led the Bears with a game
high 22 points and the Bears won for the second straight game and evened
their record in West Division play at 2-2.
1/29/10 - Benton Harbor 77, St. Joseph 43 - at Benton
Harbor
Benton Harbor earned the season split with St. Joe as the Tigers
defeated the Bears 77-43 at Farnum Gym in Benton Harbor last Friday night
avenging a 52-49 setback here in the Bear Den earlier this season.
David Brennan had 14 points to lead St. Joe.
2/2/10 - St. Joseph 58, Portage Northern 45 - at St.
Joseph
The Bears only hit 12 field goals but went 30 of 43 from the free throw line
as the Bears beat Portage Northern 58-45. Jeremy Rush scored 15 points,
including a perfect 10 of 10 from the line in the final quarter. David
Brennan added 14 points for St. Joe.
2/5/10 - St. Joseph 47, Mattawan 29 - at St. Joseph
The Bears turned up the pressure on defense and the Bears overcame the loss
of leading scorer David Brennan earlier in the week as the Bears defeated
Mattawan 47-29 at the Bear Den. St. Joe held a 15-14 lead at the half, but a
25-10 third quarter gave the Bears the lead for good. Jeremy Rush had a game
high 17 points while Matt Riemland added 13.
2/12/10 - St. Joseph 63, Portage Central 52 - at St.
Joseph
St. Joe led from start to finish as the Bears defeated Portage Central
63-52 at the Bear Den. David Brennan scored a game high 26 points and
was 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Jeremy Rush had 17 for the Bears.
St. Joe was 24 of 28 from the free throw line and 16 of 17 in the final
quarter to seal the win for the Bears.
2/16/10 - Battle Creek Lakeview 60, St. Joseph 52 - at
Lakeview
David Brennan scored 15 points and had 8 rebounds while Josh Schaffer had 13
points for the Bears as St. Joe lost at Battle Creek Lakeview 60-52.
2/19/10 - St. Joseph 47, Lakeshore 37 - at Lakeshore
David Brennan had 17 points and the Bear defense tightened the screws on
Lakeshore as St. Joe beat the Lancers 47-37. The Bears scored buzzer
beating baskets to end the 2nd and 3rd quarters and then the Bears pulled
away in the final quarter to earn the season split with Lakeshore.
2/23/10 - St. Joseph 52, Berrien Springs 28 - at St.
Joseph
Domination is certainly a word that could describe the Bears victory
over Berrien Springs who entered the game as this season's Lakeland
Conference champions. The Bear defense kept Berrien Springs off
the scoreboard until the second quarter, the Bears had built up a 14-0
lead after the first. David Brennan scored 13 points to lead St.
Joe and Sean Guinane scored 10 for the Bears in the 52-28 rout over
Berrien Springs.
2/26/10 - Niles 62, St. Joseph 42 - at Niles
The Bears were unable to comeback from a 24-12 deficit after the first
quarter in Friday’s 62-42 loss at Niles. David Brennan had 10 points and was
the only Bear player to score in double digits. It’s only the Bears second
loss in the last seven games. The Bears conclude West Division play at 4-4.
